Useful methods to solve your QuickBooks printing problems

Most of the printing related problems with QuickBooks result from broken qbprint.qbp or wpr.ini files.

These are the files where the QuickBooks software “stores” print-information. In case the files are corrupted, the problems create printing issues. Are the files damaged, prints come out false.

The ..qbp files contain information about print selections and the setup for the different forms (invoices, estimates, etc.).

The .ini files on the other hand contain more general information about Windows printers. Their file size is smaller than the .qbp files and it is quite uncommon that there are major problems with these files.

Method 2 – Restoring your broken files with the help of your back-up

If you have a QuickBooks software version where a back-up is created automatically, or you take care of this important step manually, you should be able to resolve your PDF or printer issues fairly easily by restoring your broken files with them. In any case, make sure that you are really only restoring the printer files and not old QuickBooks company data files!

Method 3 – Rename or delete the printer files

Do you want to save some time and take the most forward approach to solving your issue? Then you can try to rename or delete the damaged files.

  • Locate the file that causes problems.
  • With a right-click of your cursor on the file, select Rename and change the ending of the file name to .qbprint.old or wpr.old. Do not delete them yet!
  • Restart QuickBooks and open your company file that is related to the damaged print file.
  • Select File and then choose Printer Setup from the menu.
  • Go ahead and choose a transaction in Form Name.
  • Click the OK button.

This process creates a file free of errors. Note that this will also reset the printer settings.
